Summer 2019 Schedule of Classes

For your convenience the class listings below include the descriptions and length of times only. Most of the summer classes in the past have been scheduled at your requests for your preferred dates and times. Let us know what you would like and we will do our best to accommodate. Minimum number of students is three and we need at least 2 weeks notice to be sure to have supplies on hand and to schedule staff.

Zoom Loom

2 hour class

Learn how to weave these very versatile woven squares with yarn and the new Zoom Loom. Use them alone as coasters or join them to make cuddly baby blankets, placemats, scarves, table runners, home dec items and more. The style and texture of the yarn changes the appearance and the versatility. The square you make in class can be used as a coaster or the first of many to be joined for a larger project. Beginners welcome! Class fee: $15.00

Scalloped Edge Baskets

6 hour class

This is just the cutest basket ever. The scalloped top edge is what really makes it special. Learn the super easy trick to making these baskets while making one in class. We’ve added a handle to ours. Make yours with or without in the fabrics of your choice. These baskets will become treasured keepsakes. Class fee: $25.00

Hot Stuff Oven Mitt

3 hour class

Now you can sew silicone oven mitts using your favorite fabrics to match your decor. The pattern includes the instructions, templates and silicone overlay. The silicone overlay is 100% food grade and withstands temperatures up to 450 degrees. You will learn how to make one oven mitt in class. Additional silicone overlays can be purchased separately so you can make more for friends and family. These will make much appreciated gifts! Class fee: $15.00

Jelly Roll Rug

4 hour class

One package of 2 1/2” strips will make this beautiful 30” x 40” rug. Purchase a perfectly color coordinated package of 40 strips or cut 2 1/2” strips from your stash. Fill the strips with cotton batting; we have packages of precut batting strips or cut your own and join with fusible batting seam tape. This class will teach you step by step instructions to get you started and enable you to easily finish your rug at home. Other items can also be made using this technique. Class fee: $20.00

Beginning Pleachet’

2 hour class

Pleachet’ is a combination of pleating and one very simple crochet stitch (single crochet) to turn your scraps into lush, soft and cushy rugs or a heavy duty hot pad. Our model is made with flannel. Learn the technique in class and also different shape possibilities as well as other fabrics that can be used. Class fee includes instruction book, video, tool and carpet warp for securely holding the pleated fabrics together. No previous crochet experience required! Class fee: $75.00

Absolute Beginning Knitting

3 hour class

There is nothing simpler than a garter stitch scarf. It is entirely knitted with one stitch; the knit stitch. Today's beautiful self-striping yarns do the design work for you. You will learn how to cast on and master the knit stitch. Class fee $15.00

Beginning Crochet

2 hour class

Crocheting is more popular than ever, you’ve been wanting to learn it, now is the time! This class will introduce you to the techniques and terminology enabling you to follow written patterns. Get started by making a crocheted Spa Cloth under the guidance of an experienced crocheter. Class fee: $20.00

Pretty Scalloped Top Tote

7 hour class

Pre-cut scalloped edge placemats can be used for so many other items. This roomy tote is so cute with the scalloped top and scalloped top pocket. Learn now to fuse and sew with this incredible product, about interfacings and attaching magnetic snaps. Bonus: there is just enough remaining to make a matching clutch! Class fee: $30.00

Cutie Catch-All

7 hour class

This is the most clever little organizer. When open it stands up to reveal inner pockets for all kinds of little notions. When you want to store it or travel simply zip it up and everything is secure. Learn about fusible interfacing and fleece and sewing in zippers. Class fee: $30.00

Ruler Work Quilting on Your Sewing Machine

3 hour class

Ruler Work is the method of machine quilting by using a special foot on your sewing machine designed to follow the ruler work templates. You can quilt whole block motifs, feathers, borders and more; all without marking. The design possibilities are endless! In this class you will learn the basics of ruler work, how to use the markings to create designs and methods by which you can use this technique to quilt bed sized quilts. Class fee: $15.00

Preparing T-Shirts for a Quilt

4 hour class

You have been saving a stack of T-shirts for a quilt. This class will help with the next steps to making those T-shirts into a memory quilt. Your questions about stabilizing, interfacing, squaring, block sizes, quilt layout and more will all be addressed in this class. Bring your Tshirts to get started. Class fee: $20.00

Making Friends with Your Sewing Machine

2 hour class

Take charge of this fabulous invention to share happy times together! Do you know all that your sewing machine can do for you? What about all those feet? The correct foot does make a huge difference as does the needle you are using. How often should you change the needle and what about a bit of regular at-home maintenance? We will offer guidance to make you and your sewing machine the best of friends to create beautiful projects together. Class fee: $20.00

Introduction to Free Motion Machine Quilting

3 hour class

Free motion machine quilting is the technique used to stitch a quilt together on a domestic sewing machine rather than using a long arm quilting machine. Using this process, the sewing machine remains stationary and you move the quilt as you stitch. We will take you thru the process from setting up the sewing machine to selecting threads, batting, needle sizes and more. You will be stitching on practice pieces in class with lots of time to ask questions. The details do make a huge difference in your success and learning them in class will make your future free motion quilting experiences frustration free and fun. Class fee: $25.00

Quilt Bindings

3 hour class

The final step in quilt making is the binding. There are many different ways to bind a quilt. Learn the benefits of cutting the binding on the crosswise grain vs. continuous bias, how to successfully navigate corners and curves and to end binding with a perfect fit. Bring a project ready to bind. Let’s get those quilts finished! Class fee $20.00

Quilt As You Go Hot Pads or Mug Rugs

3 hour class

“QAYG” is “Quilt As You Go”. It is the technique where you piece and quilt your projects all in one step. The pattern comes with batting that is pre-printed with the stitching lines. You add your fabric choices and the technique results in perfect piecing and quilting even for beginners. You will make one hot pad/mug rug in class with pre-printed battings to make two more. Patterns also available for baby bibs, placemats, a casserole carrier, tote bags. Beginners welcome! Class fee: $20.00

To Ensure Your Success in Classes

Preregistration and prepayment are required for all classes. This allows the instructor to be properly prepared and allow us to schedule additional staffing. Registering at least two weeks in advance of the class date is required. There are supplies that are needed for classes and we will advise you of those at the time of payment and registration. Unless otherwise noted, class fees are for instruction only. Store credit only for cancellations.

All supplies are available at Village Fabrics & Crafts. We strive to keep all items in stock to make your preparation and shopping easy, convenient and greatly appreciate it when you purchase your supplies from us. We have tested them and are confident in their quality and your success when using them. If you have some supplies at home, you are welcome to bring them.

For your convenience, our classroom is fully equipped with irons, ironing boards and cutting mats eliminating the need for you to tote those heavy and cumbersome essentials. We also have Bernina sewing machines available for rent and need to be reserved when you register for your class as they are first-come, first-serve.
