If you are having problems with a particular stitch or pattern, please don't hesitate to call 906-492-3803 and schedule a consultation time. Below is a listing of classes we have had in the past. We look forward to the time we can come together again and share comraderie and creativity while learning. When classes are scheduled again, they will be posted here, emails will be sent to subscribers, and a notice posted on Facebook. Sample Schedule of Classes![]() Introduction to Beginning KnittingStart your knitting journey by making a simple knitted scarf. You will learn how to cast on and the basic knit stitch. Also learn about knitting needles, knitting notions and basic knitting abbreviations. You will have a soft and warm scarf and a great start to simple knitting projects. Class fee: $20.00 ![]() Sashiko StitchingAccording to Wikipedia “Sashiko” is a striking hand-sewing technique that originated in ancient Japan. In Japanese, its name means “little stabs”—a reference to the plain running stitch that makes up sashiko’s geometric, all-over patterns.” It is relaxing and requires only a printed design, sashiko thread, needles and a thimble making it very portable as it is completed without a hoop. This class will introduce you to the supplies and techniques while you stitch a patch, coaster or other simple project of your choosing. Class fee: $20.00 ![]() Jelly Roll RugOne package of 2 1/2” strips will make this beautiful 30” x 40” rug. Purchase a perfectly color coordinated package of 40 strips or cut 2 1/2” strips from your stash. Fill the strips with cotton batting. We have packages of precut batting strips or cut your own and join with fusible batting seam tape. This class will teach you step by step instructions to get you started and enable you to easily finish your rug at home. Make coasters, hot pads, placemats, even a tree skirt using this fun technique. Class fee: $20.00 “Sticky Stuff” A How-to DemoFusible webs, fusible interfacing, stabilizers, Transfer-Eze and more! So many choices; what to use, what to use! Using the correct product can make or break a project. Learn about the options, how to apply them to fabrics and what is best for each project. Knowing how to use these products to your best advantage can greatly eliminate frustrations and improve results! Class fee: $5.00 ![]() Ruler Work Machine QuiltingRuler Work is the method of machine quilting using a special foot on your sewing machine designed to follow the ruler work templates. You can quilt whole block motifs, feathers, borders and more; all without marking. The design possibilities are endless! In this class you will learn the basics of ruler work, how to use the markings to create designs and methods by which you can use this technique to quilt small items to bed sized quilts. Class fee: $25.00 ![]() Perfect Quilt Block Piecing Made EasyWe all strive for perfectly pieced quilt blocks. Many times the smallest details are easy and make the biggest difference. Learn accurate quilt block cutting, the importance of trimming corners before stitching, best pressing methods and how to stitch perfectly matched seams and triangle points. You will be making one ombre’ “Tessala” quilt block in class. Class fee: $25.00 ![]() Knitting WorkshopStumped on a knitting project? Have questions? Need reassurance? Questions about a new technique? Bring in your questions and projects and we will tackle them together to eliminate the frustrations. You want to relax while keeping those needles clicking! Class fee: $10.00 StashbustersBeat cabin fever and join us for a day of stitching on projects of your choosing. Come for the day or as your schedule permits. Bring a lunch, order in or go out. We have coffee, tea, a microwave and fridge. The classroom is equipped with an iron, ironing board, rotary cutting mats and basic rulers which you are welcome to use. You will need to bring your own rotary cutter and any other specialty tools you will need. Preregistration is required and the fee is $5.00. WATCH FOR MORE CLASSES BEING ADDED SOON!To Ensure Your Success in ClassesPreregistration and prepayment are required for all classes. This allows the instructor to be properly prepared and allow us to schedule additional staffing. Registering at least one week in advance of the class date is required. There are supplies that are needed for classes and we will advise you of those at the time of payment and registration. Unless otherwise noted, class fees are for instruction only. Store credit only for cancellations. All supplies are available at Village Fabrics & Crafts. We strive to keep all items in stock to make your preparation and shopping easy, convenient and greatly appreciate it when you purchase your supplies from us. We have tested them and are confident in their quality and your success when using them. If you have some supplies at home, you are welcome to bring them. For your convenience, our classroom is fully equipped with irons, ironing boards and cutting mats eliminating the need for you to tote those heavy and cumbersome essentials. We also have Bernina sewing machines available for rent and need to be reserved when you register for your class as they are first-come, first-serve. ![]() Please give us a call or stop by the shop to register for classes.
