For your convenience our classroom is fully equipped with irons, ironing boards, cutting mats and rulers. We also have Bernina sewing machines available for your use. Please reserve one when you register for your class- first come, first serve.



I Want to Learn . . . . . . . .

You fill in the blank, what would you like to learn? Bring along at least 2-3 of your friends and we will schedule a class just for you. You select the project, date and time, give us as much notice as possible to work it into our regular schedule, prepare and we'll have a date! You can select from classes listed on the current schedule (if the date doesn't fit your group), something offered in a previous schedule or just ask if you have any other interests; we'll do our best to accommodate. We're here to help you enjoy all the needle arts to their fullest!

Weather is not a concern for attending classes at Village Fabrics & Crafts in the winter. If the weather is uncooperative; we'll simply reschedule!

Knitted Capelet – Weds. Feb. 1, 10am – 3pm

What do you get when you use size 35 knitting needles and super bulky yarn? A wonderful capelet (shawl) that can be knitted in a day! Great next project for a beginner as you you only need to know how to knit and purl. This capelet is the perfect length to wear over the shoulders to keep you warm while you are sewing, working at a desk, reading or whenever you want a little something extra to take away the chill. What you will learn: knitting in rows on a circular needle, simple increases and using marker rings to aid in counting stitches. Class fee: $25.00

Knitted Slippers - (2 week class) Thurs. Feb. 2 & 9, 10am – 2pm

Simple to knit, comfy style to wear and oh, so warm. These slippers can be folded up and tucked into a pocket or purse to wear when visiting friends and family. Knit with bulky yarn and the pattern includes several styles and sizes for men and women. What you will learn: Increase your basic knitting ability by learning how to increase, decrease, pick up stitches, adding stitches at the end of the row. These techniques create shaping in knitting. Class fee: $30.00

Curvalicious Sweatshirt - (2 week class) Mon. Feb. 6 & 13, 10am – 5pm

Curvy strips of fabric turn a plain sweatshirt in a fabulous wearable work of art. These are gently flowing curved strips of fabric which are laid onto a sweatshirt. Secure them into place with decorative stitches, threads and make it extra special with couched specialty threads. A sweatshirt never looked so good! What you will learn: How to use a sweatshirt as a base for a quilted jacket, cutting gentle curves with your rotary cutter, methods to hold the strips in place and embellishing ideas. Class fee: $35.00

Free Motion Machine Quilting – Wed. Feb. 8, 10am – 4pm

Yes, you can free motion machine quilt! Get started with the correct methods and supplies and you will be on your way to successful free motion quilting. We will be quilting a simple table runner in class. Plus, learn a bonus mitered edge border/finishing technique to finish your table runner. What you will learn: What sewing machine settings and feet, needles and threads are needed, basting, preventing puckers, producing even stitches, following quilt patterns, stipple quilting and how to manage large quilts. Class fee: $25.00

Throw Pillows with new large Fuse 'N Wrap Piping – Wed. Feb. 15th, 10am – 1pm

See just how easy it is to make decorative pillow covers for all the rooms in your home. Use an existing pillow or purchase pillow forms from us in a variety of sizes. Make a cover which can easily be removed for washing. Make professional edges with the easy to make decorative piping in a contrast color for that extra special touch! What you will learn: how to make a pillow top and taking the measurements, basic sewing skills, and how to use piping. Class fee: $12.00

Knit or Crochet Ruffle Scarves – Sun. Feb. 19, 1pm – 3pm

These yarns look flat but magically knit into beautiful cascading ruffles. The yarns are variegated in color and just one skein creates a beautiful accent scarf. They look complicated, but are unbelievably simple to stitch. What you will learn: how to use novelty yarns creatively by using simple stitches to enhance the characteristics of the yarn to it's best advantage. Beginners welcome! Class fee: $10.00

Introduction to Paintstiks – Mon. Feb. 20th, 1pm – 3pm

Go back to those carefree days of your childhood and play with Paintstiks! Paintstiks are easy to use and create deep, rich permanent colors on fabrics while staying soft. Create your own beautiful fabrics and make motifs for everything from quilt blocks, table runners, placemats and even curtains. What you will learn: What are Paintstiks and a variety of ways to use them including rubbing plates and stencils, care for items made with them and how to apply them to prefinished items and use them in your quilts. Class fee: $15.00 and includes the use of our Paintstiks.

Ruffled Apron – Thurs. Feb. 23, 10am – 2pm

The cutest half pocket apron with a super easy to make ruffle trim. Multi-colored and fun; use 4 or 5 fabrics depending on your preference for variety. What you will learn: Following a pattern, layout and basic sewing, using “Fuse and Gather” to make yards of evenly gathered ruffles in no time and how to attach it. Class fee: $20.00

Charming” Pinwheels and Zig-Zags – Thurs. March 1, 10am - 5pm

From this one simple template, you can create a variety of designs from pinwheels to zigzag rows. Use charm squares or we will also show you how to cut the necessary pieces from fat quarters or yardage. It's especially nice with lots of fabrics! The scrappier the better; the minimum size pieces required are 5” squares. You choose; you can make placemats, table runners or centerpieces, wall hangings or quilts. Class fee: $25.00

Oh, Sew Easy Tote Bag- Mon. March 5, 10am - 3pm

A fully reversible tote that measures about 15” wide and 12” tall. It can be worn over the shoulder or make the handle longer and wear across the body for hands free use. What you will learn: following a pattern, layout and cutting your fabric, and basic sewing skills. Class fee: $20.00

Rotary Cutting 101 - Tues. March 6, 10am – 1pm

It all starts with the cutting. When you cut your quilt block pieces accurately, it is amazing how easily and accurately your quilt top goes together. This class will take you from the very beginning of what rulers, mats and cutters to use and why. Maintenance of your rotary cutting tools. How to prevent your ruler from slipping as you cut. Why and how to square up your fabrics and why the grain of the fabric is important. This one short class will make a world of difference in your quilting. For beginners as well as the more experienced quilter. Class fee: $15.00

Class Practices for Your Success

Preregistration and prepayment is required for all classes to allow the instructor to be properly prepared and to allow us to have proper staffing in the shop. Registering one week in advance of the class date is preferable. If the weather is unfavorable, we will contact you to reschedule a class. There is a supply list for most classes that you will be given at the time of payment for the class. The class fee is for the instructor only; all other supplies are additional.

All supplies are available at Village Fabrics & Crafts. We try to keep all items in stock to make your preparation and shopping easier and greatly appreciate it when you purchase your supplies from us. If you have some supplies at home, you are welcome to bring them.

Store credit only for cancellations and no credits or refunds will be given for “no shows.”
